Inclusion of Adoxa, Sambucus, and Viburnum in a single family distinct from the Caprifoliaceae is strongly recommend by APG4 but the authors of that publication hoped Adoxaceae would be endorsed as its name. The General Committee on Nomenclature ruled against the idea, preferring to use the older name, Viburnaceae, after conserving it against an even older name that never found widespread acceptance, Tinaceae.
